Drexler B. James is a writer on the rise.

Originally from Bradenton, Drexler moved to Orlando in August 2009, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism, with two minors in African-American Studies and English-Creative Writing in December 2013 from the University of Central Florida.

Shortly after graduation, Drexler began his professional writing career at The Village Daily Sun newspaper in The Villages, Fl., a retirement community with a current population of over 110,000. Starting as a general assignment reporter, he soon became the Entertainment and Social Wellness reporter, before transitioning to the Community Service position, a newly developed position. In his new position, Drexler began networking and expanding his coverage, soon restructuring coverage to include philanthropy, charitable giving, volunteerism, caregiving and dementia/Alzheimer’s disease issues. A year later, Drexler was promoted to the newly created Special Projects/SWAT Team, and further expanded his position to include Social Justice and Social Services to his area of coverage.

During his time as a news reporter, Drexler earned several awards for his in-depth coverage, as well as his research skills. But he also discovered that, in addition to writing, he enjoyed being an advocate for others and developed a heart to serve the underserving and overlooked in the community. Through his professional career as a journalist, Drexler began developing ideas for his own nonprofit organization that would focus on an area of service close to his heart; addressing hunger in America and decided to return to earn a Master’s degree.

In April 2017, Drexler left the Daily Sun for a new opportunity. In May 2017, he began his current position as the Coordinator of Communications for the College of Health and Public Affairs at the University of Central Florida, his alma mater. In January 2018, he started graduate school, enrolling in a dual Master’s degree program for Nonprofit Management and Public Administration. He plans to work in the nonprofit sector in the near future, with a desire to serve the hungry and homeless populations.

In his free time, Drexler enjoys reading, writing, dancing, singing, acting, cooking, modeling, and anything else that gives him the opportunity to express himself creatively.
